12. Bahía Agua Verde

The bay Agua Verde lies 16 miles north of Punta San Telmo and receives its name from the green fresh water resources which make the surroundings blossom green. We needed to go on a hike to find that out, as we thought that the place receives its name from the turquoise-green water we anchored in.

The beach of Agua Verde invites you to linger and stroll along in the sunset.

Along the beach there are a few restaurants where you can enjoy fish tacos and after walking for a few minutes inland you also get to a small grocery shop where you can buy basic ingredients.

Not only the people have discovered this place for themselves, but also a variety of birds, including hundreds of pelicans. These pelicans do not even have to search for fish but they can let their beaks speed into the water more or less every second and are always successful.

Countless hiking possibilities in all directions can be chosen, we chose one to find some cave paintings which are said to be found near the village. We did not find them, however we had an excursion with numerous discoveries. We passed the cementary of Agua Verde and after walking for a while over hills, sand and boulders we finally found ourselves in a forest full of green palm trees. Continuing our trek we came to another bay north of Agua Verde where the river flows into the sea during the rainy season.

Snorkeling opportunities in Agua Verde are diverse, like in all the other snorkeling spots before I spent as much time in the water as I could before feeling too cold.

We spent just one night in Agua Verde, certainly you can also stay way longer here without getting bored.
