Balandra is one of the most well-known beaches of Baja California Sur, especially thanks to its mushroom rock formation (Hongo de Balandra) and its proximity to La Paz. Balandra beach can be reached by just a half-hour drive from the city and has therefore become the main tourist attraction and symbol of the town.
The bay of Balandra is a perfect spot for watching the fishing habits of pelicans which can be found in large parts of Mexico's coastline. When I rowed over into the bay in the dinghy to get some pictures of the mushroom with our catamaran behind they circled me several times and plunged into the water just a few meters away to catch fish.
