La Paz is the capital of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur and an important regional economic center. Fernando continued his journey here on land, I decided to embark on the journey with Brian and his brother Barry who would fly to La Paz from Tijuana the next day and join us. I could have reached La Paz also on the huge passenger ferry which travels daily between Mazatlán and La Paz but luckily, I've found a more exciting travel option.
The most beautiful sight of La Paz is the beautiful malecón (boardwalk along the sea) with plenty of restaurants and bars as well as its many harbours filled with boats, the cathedral and its square are also worth a detour.
We spent a few days in La Paz to fully replenish all stocks on the boat: diesel, fresh water, food and beverages, propane and some spare parts. For two weeks at sea without access to new supplies we prepared ourselves. We also had some last meals in a few restaurants in La Paz and tried to attend mass but we failed because after we had finally done all the things no more mass took place.
One evening we spent on the peninsula which protects La Paz from the north and joined a full moon campfire which is organized by the permanent members of the local marina.
Finally we returned to the catamaran and set sail. If the Australian flag was hoisted, this was the code word for "All aboard as soon as possible".
