16. Loreto
Loreto was founded in 1697 by the Jesuits as a mission and is therefore the first and oldest Spanish settlement in California. It was the capital of California for a long time, today it is known as one of Mexico's Pueblos Mágicos thanks to a beautiful historic centre and malecón (boardwalk) which attract a lot of tourists to come here.
Around Loreto you can find beaches, desert and rich fishing grounds as the main tourist attractions. We stopped in Loreto just for a few hours to replenish our food stock.
