Punta Pulpito lies eight miles north of Caleta San Juanico, being recognized already miles away thanks to its catchy headland. The point is a lava dome which formed about half a million years ago and has still an active geothermal system with hot springs and steaming ground. There is also a giant vein of black obsidian on the southern side of the point which shows the volcanic origin of the rocks. An ascent to the base of the rock can easily be done to collect some obsidian fragments. Unfortunately, the obsidian at this point is not very pure, but extremely fragile. If you look up, you can imagine that the rock some meters higher consists of pure obsidian, but no access is possible there. Furthermore there are some small caves and portales you can explore surrounding the steep headland in a dinghy or canu.
