Santa Rosalía, with a population of approximately 12,000, is an old mining town. The city owes its existence and foundation to the rich copper deposits which were explored by the French. The technical buildings from the copper mining era can still be seen and are worth a visit. The most famous building of the city is the church Santa Barbara. It was designed in 1884 by Gustave Eiffel as a prototype for mission churches in French colonies. It was originally intended to be brought to Africa, but finally it was shipped to Santa Rosalía and built it there in 1897.
Brian and I both left the boat in the marina of Santa Rosalía and made our way up to the US border. I wanted to prolong my stay in Mexico, as I got to the 6 months and Brian visit his family and go to a wedding. We therefore ate the last perishable foods and we prepared the boat so that it would withstand wind, weather and corrosion until our return in a few weeks.
